Not a fan of this trope. Screams toxic relationship
well, I prefer the crew lancaster version rather than this one. I dont really understand the plot since the smut takes over majority of the book. I didn’t mind with the smut. I guess I enjoy it tho. but the plot is quite nowhere to be found
“Maybe Whit was right. My self-esteem is for shit” lol yeah agreed, STAND UP SUMMER.
This is an erotica/smut book, 4

This is Monica Murphy like I’ve never read her before- AND I AM HERE FOR IT! Darker, steamier, edgier- and oh so addictive! While this story has bully beginnings, it evolves into something so much more interesting and complex. It’s psychologically captivating, a dynamic exploration of power, perception, healing, and redemption.
Whit is just the WORST- and I love him. Depraved, despicable, asshole, arrogant, unhinged. The kind of hero that you’re pretty sure you need therapy for falling so madly in love with. By far one of the most messed up bullies I’ve read, but also one of the most nuanced. There’s an aching vulnerability to him that draws you in- a woundedness that spoke to me, despite his horribleness. Our heroine Summer- my lord what this girl endures. Humiliation, shame, emotional manipulation, heartbreak. Despite it all, she’s kind, she patient, and she’s giving. But she’s also strong- I loved seeing her find her voice, her own power after being powerless for pretty much her whole damn life. She’s impossible not to admire for her resilience - but even more so for the fact that despite all she’s been through, she has the courage to still hope for good in others.
Their chemistry is complicated and consuming. A beautiful mess- equal parts twisted and magical.
And lord are they HOT. Whit has a mouth that would make a sailor blush- and these two have a kinky streak I couldn’t get enough of. I was obsessed with every moment.
Both characters grow in ways both meaningful and compelling- from finding their own true selves within each other first and then learning how to be the better version of themselves to be the true partner the other needs. Two jagged broken pieces perfectly matched. This is about growing up into better yourself by confronting your worst. These are two characters with pretty deeply traumatic demons, and I love how Monica has them spiral together even more deeply in their darkness before they learn to claw their way out.
The are some amazing and unexpected twists and shifts in the story, and a few that for me felt a bit abrupt. The very last leg of the book in particular- with the ending satisfying but not quite as fantastic as the rest of this story. The story is quite long- and the exposition and ending perhaps not perfectly weighted, but I loved the book so hard that this didn't phase me much.
This story is bold and unexpected, for me a whole new version of the fabulous Monica Murphy, and all I can say is I need MORE! One of the best book surprises of the year!

WHAT THE FUCK. Guys I don’t really enjoy this that well…. summer was honestly so frustrating and it wasn’t even an enemies to lovers… I felt like summer was more crazier and twistier than Witt and that’s so disappointing and sad. The reason why it’s a 2 is because of Sylvie but it kinda drifted in the end…. I didn’t really enjoy this book AND IM SO GLAD I FINISHED IT I COULFNT READ IT AT ALL IM SORRY

Whit and Summer - I don't even know what to say about them. There is a fine line between love and hate. These two have been crossing it since the day they met.
How can you love the one person you should hate?
I hate spoiling books, so go read this.

Book 1 in the Lancaster Prep series
Whit and Summer met when they were teens and neither one has ever been able to forget the other. Now they’re both attending the same school which just happens to be owned by Whit’s family. Whit is treated like a god on campus and his word is law. Summer just wants a quiet life but he won’t leave her alone. Now he has her journal with all her secrets, and he promises to use them against her unless he gets what he wants.
My thoughts: I went into this thinking that I am probably not the target audience but I would give it a go.
If you’re looking for a steamy book then you may enjoy this, it’s about 80% smut and 20% plot. I got to the point where I was skipping the smut scenes and I felt like I barely read any pages from then on. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind an open door but I like to have a plot and connection to the characters too and I just didn’t have this.
The book is far too long and it’s repetitive. There was opportunity for a real deep connection between the MCs once Whit had read about Summer’s trauma which was what I was waiting for, but no, he ignores that and they just go about their day as normal. The journal element of the book felt really underused.
Overall I don’t think I’ll bother with the rest of this series as I don’t think it’s for me. But if you like a steamy book then you might love it.

This book is ADDICTIVE. Two MCs that are constantly pulled into each other’s orbit no matter how hard they try to fight it? Sign me up! I think I could read about these two forever. So glad this is a series!
