American Gods follows Shadow, a man recently released from prison who gets a strange offer from someone called Mr. Wednesday and we watch as he’s swept into a world where old gods struggle against the rise of new ones and so much more.
The characters were so vastly interesting and I really liked the world that Neil has created. This book was confusing at times and sometimes slow, but the characters and the world made up for it, so much.
I look forward to reading more of his work!
Found out Neil Gaiman is awful and didn’t feel like reading more

I love mythology, so this was really interesting to imagine what happens to the gods after people forget them.
Personally I’d give this a 3.5 but I’m rounding up because I like Shadow as a character so much that it smoothes over a lot of the other rough patches. I forgot the review this afternoon I read it, which is my bad, so I’ll just do my best to recount what stood out to me.
Shadow and his undead wife Laura are fantastic. They have such a good dynamic, and I love how Shadow essentially plays straight man to all the hijinks and otherworldly occurrences happening around him. The plot towards the end is where the book lost me; the reveals about Shadow’s employer and everything connected to that didn’t really make me feel anything. I think the book is at its strongest when Shadow is just meeting new people and trying to make sense of it all. I think the premise of the book is really fascinating and has its moments where it really shines, but the climax felt lackluster. Honestly, the whodunnit side plot about the missing children was much more compelling.

Always glad to read from Gaiman. he doesn't disappoint with his fantasy and imagination.
His idea is great, original, combining all the religious mythology from ancient cultures, and creating the new gods of the modern world --> a full star for the idea.
Shadow was a very strange character, kind of cold, not easily surprised by anything, and a lot of surprising things happened to him. But he is very likable. The gods' characters were great. Very enjoyable and surprising. --> 1 star
the events however are slow, it is not and edge of your seat kind of novel. But for those who like to enjoy Gaiman's writing style, like me, won't have a problem --> 1/2 star
For the voice and style of the writing --> 1 star
The ending is where things began to heat up. it was great but could've been more intense. everything was explained, and there was a great twist. --> 3/4

This is a cool book and a very interesting idea.
I don’t usually dnf books but it just wasn’t working for me. Felt like a chore.
I’ll definitely try reading it again in the future though.

While I enjoyed the premise of this book, I just couldn't seem to get into the story. I found myself putting it down in favor of other books until I just never picked it back up again....
Holy. Shit. My brain just exploded, thank you very much.
This book can only be explained by one thing: the genius of Gaiman.
