Just finished my first Gaiman book and I can see what the fuss is about. Great writing. Very interesting take on both mythology and Americana.

Supremely entertaining. Wonderful characters. A truly orginal story.

I liked the storyline, and enjoyed reading but at times it felt like a duty to keep going - I felt it could have been shorter.

Very brusque in its storytelling style but quite refreshing. Unashamed with gritty details of the fact that sometimes life just shits on you and you have to deal with it. Surprising revelation towards the end.

An excellent book, reminiscent of Stephen King and Clive Barker at their best.

Interesting story and creative engagement with mythology, gods, and modern America.

looking forward to the sequel.

Second read--this time in audiobook and in the expanded version. I don't like it as well as his other books. There's something disjointed about it.

Just an absolute bona-fide classic. It's a book you should give to a teenager, they'll be hooked and will read forever more. Just for the sheer joy of it. Lovely.

This weaves together many old myths and legends, creating a striking version of America where Gods from the old countries, from the homes of the immigrants who now live in America, struggle to survive in Godless times.

The Norse Gods are well represented, the characters are given just enough introduction to place them, and the story rattles along, weaving other stories through.

This would also have made sense as an illustrated novel - there is a playfulness in the skilful storytelling.

A thoroughly enjoyable read, which was equally enjoyable when I re-read it 6 months later.

This opened up another cluster of Gaiman books - more to follow.
