Really solid book. Only reason it’s not a 5 star is that this book could certainly have been shorter and to anyone interested in mythology, you can see all the reveals of the gods and creatures coming a mile away. Although, I’ll admit I only saw who Shadow was from maybe a half mile away and I didn’t see what Hinzelmann specifically.
The overall plot reads kind of like a disjointed selection of short stories similar to the Witcher and I think this pairs well with that series. I like that the new gods weren’t always good. This was an interesting and creative breath of fresh air. The author could do with a bit more suspense through action rather than misdirection. However the world-building, even in areas I know well and in a country I’ve lived my whole life, is very well-done.
Something oddly poetic of struggling to get by in a land that predates gods, that kills them slowly. Gives us pride in every little victory and cheap con we pull off.

American Gods by Neil Gaiman - (3.5/5) Paroled man works for Odin to gather Old World gods to fight the gods of the new world.
Premise was interesting but did the book really have to be that long? Set up to the climax was slow and fell pretty flat.

I love Neil Gaiman but wtf did I just read? I did not like it. I just didn't get it. It was weird and disjointed. I love his writing so I enjoyed parts but I kept waiting for a plot and then didn't happen until the very end. That was super weird. And it was very hard to follow. I still love this author so much but this is not the book for me.

I absolutely loved this book. It's beautiful, compelling, oddly philosophical and has a constant undercurrent of dark humor.
