Was it entertaining?
Surprisingly, yes. I’m not usually a fan of post apocalyptic romances or forced proximity but this was done well. It’s a little different than the usual alien/human romance but I liked it. Instead of the standard kidnapping and sold into slavery plot it’s a hostile aliens crash land on earth and systematically destroy everything before another alien species comes to save the day story. Fair warning, there’s a good bit of dark themes in this one — namely, forced breeding and death — but nothing truly graphic or gory. There’s even a little bit of fated mates, alien reptile dick, and also alien symbiotes. There’s a lot going on but it works. 5/5

Was it enjoyable?
Mostly. It felt like reading a formal academic paper at times with the author’s aversion to contractions but overall it was fine. The pace was great and it felt like a quick read which is always a good thing. Again, not a huge fan of forced proximity so I did not enjoy or like the complete lack of relationship building here. The FMC spent the first half of the book terrified out of her mind and then fell for the MMC almost immediately after. We know nothing about him or his world except that he has a brother and his home planet was destroyed. We know nothing about the FMC except that she was a vet and is kind of reckless. There’s really nothing in the way of compatibility or even conversation but they’re fated mates. I don’t buy it. 3/5

Was it well-written?
Absolutely. No notes. 5/5

Overall, I think it was fine and I’m cautiously optimistic about the second one if only because it’s a pleasant diversion without any glaring issues. 4.3/5 stars

DNF -Struggled to connect with the story. Once they’re rescued and communication is possible, I’d like to know what is happening, who are these aliens and what’s the next thing to do (find other humans? Help fight the aliens?)
Too vague I couldn’t get into it

I was pulled in from the very first chapter, the story was so atmospheric and read like a horror movie, it reminded me a lot of War of the Worlds.

While I enjoyed the world building and the story around Adira and Fer’ro immensely, I wish we got to see more of just them. Considering the circumstances it’s obviously difficult to fully flesh out their relationship, but I couldn’t help but feel like their relationship was neglected and in result the romance felt like a subplot.

I liked Adira a lot and thought she was a competent character, I liked her bravery and the way she looked after the other girls. I liked Fer’ro just as much and watching him adjust to not only Earth but humans alike was enjoyable, I liked them both together and thought they made a sweet couple.

i liked this one 😊. Well done invasion back story and a well-paced romance that felt (at least) a bit more plausible than most in this genre. The emphasis on plot was great and left lots to consider, which keeps me interested for book 2.

Needs a bit of editing, could be a bit more flushed out. But a very interesting, grim, but refreshing change from the "mars needs women" troupe in sci-fi romance.
