This was a very unique biography of Octavia butler with the story/background told in paragraphs and snippets expressed and told in verse. One specific poem really spoke to me about the impact of Octavia as a writer. It was really beautiful. All the snaps.

I love Octavia Butler’s writing. She created incredible stories, worlds and characters. Her lose in 2006 was devastating, lost were untold stories of amazing black woman who never stopped fighting for themselves, their families and their worlds. Ibi Zoboi’s love of Butler is apparent in this biography.

I think it is wonderful that Zoboi wrote this for kids, she is introducing Butler to future readers who search for themselves in the stars, in the future, in science fiction.

Short and interesting (I listened to the audio which is an hour and a half long). I finished wanting to read some of Butler's work, which I'm currently waiting for on the holds list.

Shamefully, I didn’t know much about Octavia E. Butler before reading Zoboi’s very unique and special biography of the great science fiction writer. Filled with poems, quotes, artifacts, biographical writing, and Zoboi’s own connection to Butler, I learned so much. A must read.
