Thanks to PRHAudio for this complimentary audiobook! What a wonderful and short glimpse of Octavia E. Butlers life! I am still yet to read her work but learning more about her life has me hankering to read Parable of the Sower soon!

I adore this so much! The mix of biography and poetry, the use of actual quotes and photos from Butler’s life, the strong writing! I also happen to be a huge fan of Octavia Butler and I love seeing a kids’ biography about her! This feels like a winner all the way around to me.

This biography is exceptional, from the unique mixing of poetry, prose, and quotes to the pitch perfect developmentally relevant summarizing of historical context. It's short but nuanced, loving, respectful and joyful. Simply exceptional.

A really sweet collection of speculative biographical poems about Octavia Butler, interspersed with biographical vignettes.

A very short but compelling biography of a muck-loved Sci-Fi writer and the mother of Afrofuturism.

Zoboi weaves together poems, short narratives, artifacts, and quotes from Octavia Butler to form a portrait of her early life and literary career. Intended for a YA audience and still thoughtful and compelling to read as an adult.
