With a slow start, I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy this book, but a little over halfway through it started to get really interesting. I wasn’t fond of the description of the monster and his activities, as they seemed descriptive to the point of being boring. I loved the relationship between the two people in the house and how it developed throughout the book. The ending was obvious to me but I still enjoyed this horror story.

Without giving spoilers, this book is both scary and mysterious. I really enjoyed how it kept switching my expectations and keeping me off balance while also having some genuinely heartfelt moments. I haven't been much of a fan of the horror/scary genre, but I'd be definitely interested in reading more from this author (and look at that, she has a lot of other published works to keep my occupied).

I thought the beginning of the book was confusing, and then the twist of Leigh being dead was revealed. I also found some parts where Leigh was seeing the "rot" of the house confusing as I didn't see why it fully mattered because she didn't address it. It was interesting reading a book where the main character was dead. I thought Sarah was very sweet and I loved their friendship. And I loved the ending where it sounded like Leigh was going to wait for Sarah to pass on before sue did, so they could pass on together.
