A classic for a reason. This book shapped the romance genre a whole and it's easy to see, but it about more than romance. Like the title itself says, but many forget, it's about pride and prejudice, how they affects our daily decision and how that may affect the course of our lifes. Many times I forgot it was written as a comtemporary romance. The naturality and variety of the female characters is foreign to how we tend to think of historical women. Many times I caught myself thinking about how the author made this or that dialogue too modern for the setting before remembering when it was written. I particularly love how the author often criticizes by exposing the character lack of self awareness, including Lizzie, and trust the reader to catch on. I also love how she highlighted that parental neglect were part of lead to Lydia's fate, and also made sure to highlight that she was truly a child. She also makes sure highlight both her mom's and dad's neglect. The Dad's part is often lost in adaptations.

I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look, or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.

classics are still difficult for me to read, especially older ones, but the romance of pride and prejudice carries you through. it helps to have seen various adaptations and to know the story so well, but it’s a different experience altogether to read the source and be so intimate with it. to get these perspectives from elizabeth and darcy is wonderful, and it’s clear why austen’s writing endures.

I loved this book so much! I devoured it! I thought it was so silly and absurd which made it hilarious. It didn't try to do too much, it was appropriately densed and generally well-paced. I found the side stories funny and engaging, despite wanting to get back to Elizabeth and Darcy! And normally I can't stand the miscommunication trope but it was maneuvered so purposefully I couldn't hate it if I tried!
Darcy's willingness to learn from Elizabeth and take accountability to make things right I found so endearing! I love the message in that! And their chemistry was great.
I saw a lot of myself in Elizabeth and a lot of my sister in Jane actually, which made it even more fun to read.
It was also interesting to see how old these popular tropes are! The absurdity of rom coms has and always will be there! Overall I just think the whole book was so well executed and did what it ser out to do so well!
