Midnight Alias is the sequel to [b:Midnight Rescue|12368900|Midnight Rescue (Killer Instincts, #1)|Elle Kennedy|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1324661720s/12368900.jpg|17349172]. This book wasn't as good as the previous one for me, but the rating is the same because my liking is subjective while with reviews and ratings, I try to be objective.

The book follows the character of Luke Dubois, a member of a team of mercenaries on a mission to find an agent who went missing while undercover. They have to keep an eye on a mob boss, Angelo, who is the owner of a strip club. Olivia Taylor works at the club to support her education and her mother's cancer treatments and medication. She's also the unwilling girlfriend of Angelo and is approached by Luke to find out more about her "boyfriend".

The novel has a good plot and I appreciated how different the character of Olivia was from Abby, the protagonist of Midnight Rescue. I didn't love her like I did Abby but I saw how strong she was in handling everything she'd been dealt. Luke was a great character, with his humor, charm and regard for others while maintaining a practical outlook. I was also very invested (maybe even a little more than Luke and Olivia) in two secondary characters, Trevor and Isabel. Theirs is the next book and I'm pretty excited about it.

The pace of the book was okay. It felt very long, even though it's about the same length as the previous. Not that it was boring. Just... longer-feeling.

The villain of the novel was a nutjob. I know a lot of readers didn't like him as much as they did Devlin in book 1, but I thought he was more interesting. Devlin was dangerous, while Angelo was given more backstory. He was messed up from his childhood even though he'd had a loving one. You don't see that much. I hated him; as you're supposed to hate a guy like him.

The main problem with the novel was toward the end. The climax events were too similar to that of Midnight Rescue. That was off-putting.

Overall, I liked this novel and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be doing a series marathon this month. Let's just hope I can balance this series with the books on my schedule because I've already fallen behind. So much for the new year's resolution, huh?

A DEA agent has gone missing and Jim Morgans mercenary group has been hired to find him. Ladies man Luke needs to get close to Olivia Taylor aka Livie Lovelace a stripper at the Diamond Mine the last place the DEA agent was seen. The problem is the mobster that runs the joint has claimed Olivia as his and he doesn't share. Getting close to her will be tough but Luke is up for the job. What he doesn't expect is what he finds himself feeling for her when he does. She is not what he expected. Now all he has to do is find the DEA agent and get Olivia away from the mobster and convince her that he is the guy for her. He might have more luck knife fighting with Abby.

The second in the Killer Instincts romantic suspense series is as good if not better than the first. The men are hot and heroic. The women are smart and sassy. What more do you need? Fans of Lori Fosters Edge of Honor series will enjoy this.

Elle Kennedy brings on the suspense in the second book to her Killer Instincts series, Killer Alias. This book focuses predominately on Luke, the mercenary whose search for a missing DEA agent leads him to the Big Easy and directly in contact with Olivia Taylor, a stripper working in the club the agent was last seen.

This book was definitely as action packed as the first book in the series and definitely helped move the book along. Olivia was forced to strip when she desperately needed money, but she displayed an internal strength despite the difficulties of her current situation. Her chemistry with Luke is off the charts, but there was definitely the instalove (at least on his part) that seems to occur more and more with romance novels. This is a great series to read if you’re a fan of romantic suspense, and there were plenty of action, and there are ongoing secondary storylines and characters that will feed into the other books. This book was reviewed by a member of the review staff at Cocktails and Books. This book serves equally well as a thriller and a swoon-worthy romance. Both main characters are described as being incredibly gorgeous, which is a tad aggravating but they both also make significant mistakes through the novel, which lessens their open perfection. Kennedy also creates a believable and thoroughly horrifying villain, a feat not all romance novels can claim. Will definitely continue to read Elle Kennedy's books, I haven't come across one I haven't liked yet!
