This is my favorite of the two novellas for this series. In the other books you hear about Queen Elsabet the oracle queen who killed three houses because of a vision, and this is the foundation for the rule that all queens who are oracles are killed after birth. Reading the story about what happened to cause this situation and who was behind it provided a lot of new information and background that we previously did not have, so it was worth the read for me.

I think this one was good, maybe not as good as the young queens but I liked getting a glimpse of one of the historical queens. I think her story was mostly pretty compelling. I had a good time with it atleast.

I’m mostly rating it 2 stars because I feel like it ended really abruptly and didn’t really make sense because it should have been a full length book instead of a novella. I think this really could have been fleshed out and great. Still love the series and author, but this one was a miss for me.

This is so sad, not what I expected when I read about the Oracle Queens in Three Dark Crowns.
