Though slow to get going, it turned out to be a fun historical lesson/speculation.
In the audio version, the back-and-forth perspective shifts kept the pace punchy.

Hard to follow with lots of narrators. I think it would be a better book if I physically read it

Tip: Pay attention to the traffic signs in the book, I didn't until the end and they're quite a clever addition.
I liked the book. There's a real sense of adventure while the characters explore other countries. There's a lot of moments which are unique to travelling with a new love, both good and bad; lots of it written well. However, the historical figures felt like an afterthought that should've been scrapped in a draft version. Not enough pages are given to them to be interesting, especially because half of it is focused on how they relate to Stanley's issues or their opinion of Stanley. I'd rather have a book either about Stanley and Jessie or Stanley and historical figures, there wasn't enough room for both.
I get that the poetic and change of styles bothers a lot of people, but it's something I enjoyed. Overall the book is enjoyable, but not a must-read.

Perhaps a case of me preferring the author's later work!
