This is one of the more disturbing manga that I’ve read. If you’re into horror then I would definitely check it out. It is pretty graphic in parts so just keep that in mind.

A high school boy and girl share their fascination with serial killers. Some graphic panels.
I read this again a few months back and it still holds up. The level of eerie, the lovingly drawn brutality and gore, the teenager protagonists that you're not sure if you sympathize with or maybe even fear. If you read and enjoyed casual horror titles like [b:Death Note, Vol. 1: Boredom|13615|Death Note, Vol. 1 Boredom (Death Note, #1)|Tsugumi Ohba|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1419952134l/13615._SY75_.jpg|1782155], I thing you'll enjoy this. It doesn't have that same grand scale of drama, coming in much closer to home. Think of if your best friend's sister went missing or your old post man was found out to be a serial killer. And you, with your teenage obsession with death are either nearly the next victim or slyly figure out the criminals because you might see yourself as one in the right light.
Is it on par with creators like [a:Junji Ito|8483|Junji Ito|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1590271033p2/8483.jpg], maybe not, but it's still a good and fairly quick trip. I have read a few of the complaints, and I think either people are going in with certain expectations or they're not sure what they're getting into. It's a horror manga that feels almost like a slice of life piece. The story moves around because the story isn't about the leads as much as its about these experiences they encounter. And mixing up characters? It's definitely used as a plot device so keep in mind that you may need to flip back and forth if something seems off.
Overall, I loved it. I want to grab a copy of the novel next.

So far Otsuichi's Goth is my favourite read of the year and I had to seek out the manga version. While story wise it's not as good, Oiwa's art is just positively breathtaking. This was a fun read and I loved Otsuichi's author's note at the end.
The manga cuts down the stories a bit, removes Dog (which I'm not mad about) and combines Twins and Voice. Voice is maybe my favourite story in the original but this was an interesting change.
Definitely a fun read!

CW: gore, violence, death, suicide, some nudity, mutilation
still love this. definitely not for everyone, but the art is gorgeous and I love the overall story. this is the manga based off the novel/short story collection of the same name by otsuichi, one of my favourite books.
if you enjoy this, pick up the novel, there's more there. if you enjoyed the novel, definitely pick the manga up! not every story is here, but its obvious why when you've read both, as at least one story simply can't be done in this form of visual format. there's also a movie if you can find it. I really enjoyed it. I'm a huge fan of Otsuichi's work. I wish he'd release more.

2 out of 5 stars
This book should be called Teenage Psychopaths,or Horror, not Goth. This is not a gothic story about goths, just the author trying to extend the definition to include murderers and torturers which is hugely offensive to anyone gothically inclined. Yes, you can have gothic psychopaths but not all psychopaths are goths.
At the end of the book the author writes "goth is a 'culture a fashion and a style' ...a film critic called Angelina Jolie goth for collecting execution equiptment". What has that got to do with teenagers who romanticise murderers, multilators and torturers? Teenagers who don't seem remotely interested in gothic culture, fashion or style (the girl has black hair, but that's pushing it). One of them wants to chop off hands, and the other has started her sociopathic journey during childhood.
On top of that the story is silly, they interact with murderers without ever getting hurt, the murderers walk off into the sunset and no police appear. The girl is portrayed as being stupid, and has to be constantly rescued by the male characters, something particularly irksome as a female reader.
I gave this 2 stars because the art is very good, but not outstanding, there are much better Horror manga out there.
