Could definitely use more explanation of motive earlier on in the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it, though. Sets up well for the final book, and introduces who the Honored Matres are well in the wake of LetoII.

So many feelings about this book. On one level, I love it. It brought me out of a really long reading slump due to mental health issues. I love the world, the Bene Gesserait and the gholas and spice. (They movie was also really well done.) There are some writing flaws (constantly explaining the subtext of dialogue in an attempt to make it sound more mind-boggling actually does the opposite), but most of them are forgiveable.
However, there is one plot thread that is not. For a while, I was able to ignore it at least but it became a bigger and bigger part of the plot. The main enemy is a coven of evil priestesses who are so awful they *gasp* control men through their sex-superpowers. And the book would have us understand that this—the super-sexy priestess-witches forcing men to think with their bleeps—is a very serious evil, as evil as bureaucy.
Much more to say on this, but for now the main takeaway is that we can't have nice things because men ruin them.

The themes are as fascinating as always, but I would have preferred there not be a sexually explicit scene that contained plot-important details. It was short though, which I appreciated.
