A travel writer goes to a small town in Vermont to experience winter activities for the first time much to the chagrin of her guide, a former Navy SEAL. Sparks fly between them though it seems our intrepid reporter may have brought trouble with her as her car gets vandalized - will the Navy SEAL protect her or leave her to fend for herself?

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I felt that the female character was given plenty of agency and the male character wasn't too dominating. I don't really like the dynamic of helpless women and all-knowing savior men, but I felt this book walked that line well.

This book is the first in a series of 8, all set in the same town and modern time period. I feel that later books in the series fall heavily into the dominant man saving the helpless woman narrative. There is also a lot of law enforcement characters in these books, both as main characters and side characters, incl. the SEAL here, an FBI agent, another government agent, local cops, former Army Ranger. I'm not going to review the rest of the series as it's not my style but I'm sure it has people who are looking for just this stuff. A few of the books have sexual assault and/or stalking as the current or backstory for the female character (at least once a male character is being stalked) so be aware if that's not something you want to read.
