In the late 90s the Jorgensen sisters Iris and Lily and their mother were on a roadtrip around Australia. It was the trip of a lifetime until their mother disappeared, along with a young girl who had been travelling with them. 24 years later, it's been years since estranged sisters Lily and Iris spoke to each other, but when new evidence is found that relates to their mother's disappearance the sisters must try and reconcile their differences.
This was a monthly free audiobook from Audible quite some time ago. I have to say I wasn't totally sold on it which is why it took me a while to get around to listening to it.
This one is quite a slow story. I didn't particularly warm to either of the main characters, both Lily and Iris are very wrapped up in their own agendas throughout the whole book. I also found it odd that they're on a trip with their kids for pretty much the whole book, but manage to leave them somewhere unexplained whenever it suits them to be just the two of them.
For a large part of the book it felt like not a lot was happening, and all of the information the sisters discovered just kind of fell into their laps without them really having to do much to get it. I don't get why people would be so free with information to these 2 women after having kept things hidden for so long. I don't believe that the girls (Lily especially) could possibly not realise the sort of man their father was. That isn't something that changes, and as an adult Lily would 100% have picked up on something.
I think really the main thing with this book is that it just wasn't for me. I found it very heavy going, and that's something I usually avoid in books since I read for escapism. There's a lot of very dark topics covered in the book, and it ends up really just being an incredibly sad story. That in itself doesn't mean it's a bad book, it's just not my sort of book. Plenty of other people have loved it, I just had too many issues with the storyline and didn't get any real joy out of the read.

This was WILD. Started as your standard dual timeline Aussie thriller and then really took a turn. Didn't expect the ending, but I think that's because the writing didn't really set it up well.
Anni Taylor never fails to bring out the best in delivering a different way to bring a crime / suspense thriller to the reader.
Her books are not generally based on police officers and detectives doing the work load on a case.. Though they are in the book. It concentrates on the main characters in the novel that do most the work in solving missing persons case. Once again it came with many twists and turns.. This book kept me guessing until the very end. Definitely another Annii Taylor delight
