I liked this book, but not as much as her other books. I feel like it could have been written in less pages. It left me wondering what happened to Refe, which he was never mentioned. As long as the book was, it felt like the ending was abrupt.

WOW. I love historical fiction, and this one totally blew me away. I held my breath at some parts, got angry at others, and SOBBED at a few. This book has made it to my top 3.

I read this book because of the multitude of recommendations I heard and the many accolades that the author has been received. I’ll be honest, it’s my first Kristin Hannah book. Hannah is a lovely storyteller and her research is impeccable, but I honestly grew tired of listening. I kind of forced myself to finish, but I’m not even sure I could tell somebody what the whole story was about - how many disasters and abusive relationships can one person, or one reader, endure? And the ending? Awful.
