I'm still shook.
Best horror novel I've read probably, like, ever. I was constantly on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next and I thought I knew what was going on but then it pulls the rug out from under you. There was literally never a dull moment.

Holy bloody satanic rituals, Batman!
I'm no stranger to the weirder things in life (I watch Supernatural), but this book was even a bit much for me. Plot wise, it had a lot of things I like: creepy towns, a gruesome murder/suicide mystery, weird kids, chants, rituals, cults, symbols, the whole nine yards.
By the end of it, though, my only reaction was,
Lots of bloody imagery and satanic elements, as a warning, if that's not your thing. I can withstand reading about a lot of creepy stuff, but this may just take the cake.

I received an excerpt of this book from the publisher on NetGalley. I quickly realized I’m into horror books! I knew I liked horror movies, but I hadn’t tried my luck with books. To anyone that loves the genre this is a must read. The story is so gripping. You can’t stop turning the pages! It gets better and better with each chapter passing by. The protagonist, Clay, is relatable I could say. He is an amazing brother and son who does his best to help out his family. There’s something so chilly and creepy about the Preservation Society and their ways and I can’t wait for the whole book to be published in order to find out what happens next. I’m ashamed to say I didn’t know the writer before, but glad I found her! The way she uses the language and the description of the scenes, especially the scary/weird/freakish ones, is like watching a movie. Now that I said it, I could easily watch this book turn into a film! Definitely worth checking out.

Very scary! Will haunt your thoughts even after you've moved on. Kim Liggett Issa fantastic! This cover doesn't do it justice. Very well developed characters.

Kim Liggett has such good pacing, I couldn't put this book down, similar to how quickly I read The Grace Year! While I found this book a wild ride, some things were predictable and easy to figure out. There were so many things going on from all different angles that even when I figured much of it out, there was still so much more to untangle. I did find the ending to not really wrap everything up all that well, it felt somewhat abrupt and like things were left hanging. It was very enjoyable, I just wish that it was a bit tidier by the end!

I am kicking myself for putting this book off so long. It was exactly what I expected and what I needed in a horror book. A longer review to come, and perhaps a podcast episode??

I didn't really like this book, I got about two thirds of the way through and just couldn't finish it...I don't know if is actually bad or if it's just not my cup of tea.

OK, that was one of the scariest books I've ever read and it was YA! I absolutely loved it.
