I went into this armed with only two pieces of information:
(1) This is a sci-fi short story with a twinge of horror,
(2) and it takes place in an Ikea knockoff.

This was recommended to me in book club. I couldn't decide if it was almost comical or quite creepy. Probably both.

But the cliffhanger ending was uncalled for, IMO. So I deducted half a star.

Also,
RIP original
Ursula.

I really liked the whole multiverse inside an Ikea-like store concept. I liked that we got to experience some of those worlds. I also found it interesting that the characters we were following were recent exes.
However, I just wished for a bit more. This was really good, just not a new favorite.

Forced proximity with a recent ex/co-worker while jumping between universes! Such a good book that made me laugh, then cry, then laugh again!

It's a very interesting little story and of course I adore the representation, but it just felt rushed, especially towards the ending. It has some grand ideas that could work in a novella or a novel, but this execution just wasn't adequate. For the most part I felt like there wasn't any conflict at all so the plot was bland and dry. I have to admit the ending surprised me though, so I enjoyed the last few minutes.

For someone who has never been to an IKEA, I keep running into books with IKEA reskins and the weird things they do to reality. I'd love to experience it firsthand, but maybe without the employee hive mind trying to kill me.
