Not as captivating as Annihilation, but hoping Acceptance brings it all together.

Slower read than Annihilation, the first three quarters especially felt like they were dragging and had some repetitious tone and environment setting. While I appreciated the contrast with the first book by choosing to focus almost entirely on Control's internal world, it was far more challenging to get through and stay engaged with. The final 50 or so pages are very exciting and serve as a good hook for the reader to continue with Acceptance.

basically 3/4 of the book are this one guy playing 4D chess over CIA office drama, until all the sudden the plot explodes violently all over his clumsy, passive aggressive social maneuvering. didn't give a shit about this book for a while there and was just doggedly trying to finish it until a scene hit me so hard all the hairs on my body stood up and I had to put it down and take a walk before I kept reading. I didn't like it as much as annihilation or acceptance, because less interesting area x stuff happened, but slog through, it's worth it
