i don't even know where to start with this one. the beginning (excluding that weird ass flashback with niko - you know exactly which one) was actually pretty promising and seemed to diverge slightly from her usual schtick where she just copies and pastes existing characters and scenes, but after it got like halfway in she just reverted to her usual tactics. i think the quality of writing has actually gotten worse with this book, but at best it's stayed the exact same imo. i hated the dialogue and ended up skimming almost all of it. i had somewhat high hopes since it was an MM romance and i thought she would switch up the relationship dynamics but ultimately it didn't matter if she did or did not since it was formulaic to a T and contained the same scenes as the previous LOG books just with niko and bran.

i though niko for sure would be different to the other mmcs since he has a wildly different personality but it turned out that once he got his own book it didn't matter. he wasn't completely ooc but in the self plagiarised scenes it just felt like his own character and temperament was second to the character of her older mmcs. it was interesting to see why bran was so tortured but the pacing of that plotline was so strange. i wish she went a little further into why niko never slept in a bed too but i can't tell if that was a plothole or just purposely ignored. the whole dynamic between them, at least from brandon's side, felt confusing; i still have no idea why bran loves niko so much - at least we knew niko was obsessed at first sight (literally) which is understandable since he's pretty chaotic, but i needed more than that from brandon. it doesn't really fit with his character in the previous books.

overall this had potential, and i liked the first half, but the repetition and the lack of originality (amongst other things) made it fall flat for me.

This book deserves an infinite amount of stars. Holy shiiiiiit I love this series so damn much. It seriously has a chokehold on me. Rina takes you on a complete rollercoaster of emotion throughout this book.
Watching Nikolai and Brendan's relationship bloom, to see how hard they love each other and how they calm each other during their storms is just… gah! Chef's kiss!!!!
Niko's tattoo for Brandon 😍
Brandon and Landon's conversation at the hospital 🥰
White mask finally revealed 🤯
I cannot believe this is Rina's first MM romance. She fucking killed it!
To sum up, I loved it. It was romantic, heartbreaking, beautiful and at times a true rom-com. Who knew Niko could bring out the funny!?
EVERYONE HAS TO READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!

pls rina write all your books like this one.
this is probably the best book you have ever written, I left half of my heart to bran and niko.
I wouldn't have written a few things (probably the Kolya thing, a bit annoying), but altogether this is IT.
I felt so emotionally connected to both of them and I loved the character development of Landon

3.25 out of 5 ☆’s.

I have a looot of thoughts about this one. 😮‍💨

I admittedly went into this book with high expectations. I read most of RK’s backlist because I had gotten videos of Nikolai + Brandon on my FYP & wanted to read their book when it was released. I started this entire journey for them - so it is possible that those expectations and feelings influenced my reading experience (and are therefore reflected in my rating).

It has been a couple of days since I finished God of Fury and yet I am still struggling to grasp how I feel about it…

I was worried about how things would be portrayed — seeing as this is RK’s first LGBTQ+ novel — but I had hoped that my worries would be unfounded (I am not sure that is the case though, unfortunately).

While reading the LoG series there were moments where I felt as though Nikolai’s character perpetuated some harmful bisexual stereotypes, which made me a bit uncomfortable while reading. He is constantly reflecting upon threesomes + orgies that he has participated in in the past and in GoF (while speaking to his pen*s) he states the following: “Is it all the fucking? No. Hell no. That's what he thrives on. It's why he chose to be completely cool with any hole. Endless options and all that.”

I understand that LGBTQ+ representation doesn’t have to consist of squeaky clean characters that are perfect representations of their sexuality. Bisexual characters + people are allowed to enjoy sex (and threesomes) but when this is your first time writing in the POV of an LGBTQ+ character and you end up relying on stereotypes (even unintentionally) then it does make me worried about possible future LGBTQ+ releases and the way that those characters will be depicted.

I also felt as though Brandon’s whole toxic masculinity mentality (?) wasn’t unpacked enough? I understand that he had issues with appearing “abnormal” due to what happened to him in the past (and I do sympathize with that), but saying the following: “I hate it when he treats me so delicately like I’m some girl. It’s enough that he fucks me. I’m still not fully comfortable with the fact that I like being fucked by a man. It makes me feel less manly, less…normal.” was…a bit much to say the least?

I did enjoy the family moments in this book though! :) Landon + Brandon’s growth made me tear up & I thought that Kyle + Nikolai had some great scenes as well!

I wish we had seen more of Jonathan  + Aurora (since Brandon was compared to Alicia in a previous book) & I wish we had some more scenes of Brandon + Mia’s friendship. I also felt as though there was a severe lack of “lotus flower” mentions (since that’s the only thing that Nikolai would call Brandon in the other books) but that’s just me being nitpicky.

ੈ✩‧₊˚

(I’m also side eyeing the people that are leaving bad reviews on this book because they’re upset that it’s about two men. Do better. 🤨)

Absolutely loved their relationship! I think they were able to have a better relationship than the other books in the series because Rina Kent decided to not make their romance as dark as the others. I think that was the best decision because I actually was able to fall in love with the both of them unlike the couples in the other books. They actually felt like they were in love, like there was an actual romance happening between them!

Bran ended up being everything and more. I cried for him in chapter 21 when we finally get the depth of Bran’s mental and emotional anguish.

Niko and Bran ended up being so beautiful ❤️
