A thoroughly charming, relatively low-stakes bodice ripper, "The Spinster and The Rake" was a light, quick read starring a likable pair of characters -- she's a bluestocking who loves books and politics; he's a duke who's clearly on the autism spectrum -- who have solid chemistry with one another. Devon plays with a "Pride and Prejudice"-esque set of supporting characters/scenarios that's quite fun. All in all, an enjoyable story.
Okay just reread this and bumped it up to 5⭐️ I think I missed the spark the first time around bc I wasn’t paying close enough attention to the audiobook but my god the end of this !!!! So fucking cute
Parts of it were really good but there was a bit in the middle that was a bit boring. Looking forward to reading the next book.

This is a book that surprised me. It started off fairly cliched, though quickly I knew there was something more interesting to the male protagonist, Edward. Though the book went back and forth between cliched romance to interesting, this particular character development kept me going. I found the dynamics of it with Georgianna compelling and the character growth connected to it satisfying. I liked both of the main characters and the side characters, and I always enjoy nods to my fave novel, P&P. I wavered between giving it a 3.5 or 4 star rating, but when in doubt I always bump it up because I’d rather over support books then tear them down.
What a beautiful story. This feels like a historical version of a Helen Hoang romance, focused on a man who is on the autism spectrum. At the same time, it also felt like a worthy successor to a Jane Austen novel. Lovely. Sweet. Moving. There’s a bit of drama with the dad that, at first, felt out of the blue. But, similar to the Lydia drama in P&P, acts as a catalyst to reveal the duke’s true character. Highly recommend!
Some things that didn’t ring quite right include a too handsome duke (there aren’t that many dukes so why couldn’t he have been something else) and a four hour labor (seriously!?)

Books like this are the reason I love historical romance so much. It's perfection; interesting characters, interesting times, and the scenes that will warm your heart, make you smile, and make it impossible for you to put it down. I loved every second and enjoyed every moment.
Georgiana simply wants to find a quiet place to hide. She hates social gathering and balls are the worst. Unfortunately for her, things took an interesting turn when she encounters a handsome man.
Edward wants a few minutes to himself. That's all. He doesn't expect to find an intriguing woman sitting in his chair and refusing to leave just because he asked. Not very nicely at that. But then, he doesn't do nice.
Now the two find themselves engaged which something neither of them want or need. What will this not-so-happy union bring? Well, that's anyone's guess.
A very well-written story which I highly recommend to the fans to historical fiction. You really don't want to miss this one.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.
