I didn't jive with the writing well but the story was okay.
Neither of them wanted to get married, much less to each other, yet Georgiana and Edward find themselves engaged after a battle of wills that got out of hand. She is unprepared and intimidated of becoming a Duchess and he is certain that she planed the compromise somehow. And I'm standing by the side hooked from the first page.
They fit so well together yet it took them a bit to realize that they can find more in each other than the sizzling air between them whenever these two would find themselves alone together. It was great to see these two discover that their connection went beyond their instant physical connection and how they developed a deep understanding of one another.
I also weirdly enjoyed their misunderstandings, probably because they were based on perfectly reasonable assumptions they had made about each other and how they learned to communicate better.
What I loved best about this story were the two main characters, the author wrote them so well-rounded and realistic, that it was a joy to follow their story.
Edward especially is (positively) different to any other romantic hero I've ever read about. He reads like he is on the spectrum and as people with invisible disabilities and mental illnesses existed throughout history, I appreciated this character a lot. This book did a great job portraying how someones life who is on the spectrum could've looked like if they lived in 1795 and the right vocabulary and the proper guidance on how to cope is just not there.
I was provided an e-ARC by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first Eva Devon and I really enjoyed this. This novel is mainly character driven rather than plot focused which for me I really enjoyed. This does read very pride and prejudice but felt original enough to keep my attention.
Edward is an interesting love interest whom I enjoyed reading about. As a neurodivergent reader seeing any rep that didn't feel stilted or forced and doesn't stem from bad stereotypes has me smiling. I am not on the autistic spectrum so I can't say if the rep is entirely accurate or not but as someone with other mental health it was nice to see rep in a romance novel. Edward could also be read as ADHD which is something I have and so there were so many things that I found I personally experienced.
Georgiana is such a good heroine. She is believable in the ways she doesn't change overnight and it takes time to adjust but she keeps pushing forward. She's smart and not afraid to let others know.
The romance is slow-building but the attraction is rather clear and early since it is what gets them into the mess at the beginning. The miscommunication in the beginning of Georgiana being in his chair and him not being recognized as a Duke and then him assuming she got them caught to gain his title. It was the sort of thing that made sense, that even telling him the truth he didn't believe her. As it progressed it was rather nice though for me it was just a little over the skull in the beginning.
I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

This was so cute!!! I really liked it. I didn’t know going in that the hero is a neurodiverse character, probably in the autism spectrum, though it is not specified due to the knowledge in the 19th century. I really liked how it was approached and how it wasn’t a mere plot device. He was just how he was and she understood and emphatize. The climax was weird, I thought the problem was brought in out of nowhere. The pacing was slow in the middle. The hero was my favorite part for sure.
this book took me so long to finish oml i almost quit

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC!
This book was a 3.5 for me. It started off really really strong. Fun dialogue, great chemistry, and a little bit of mystery. But then it just lost steam as it went along. I almost felt like I was reading a story with a world in black and white instead of full color.

Pretty formal; loved the meet cute; low stakes drama. Seemed to lose a sense of Georgiana in the second half while filling Edward out more fully. Irritated that I did not get a scene of the literary salon. Great to see neurodiverse rep.
The book just lost direction or chemistry after their secret wedding. Such a strong start though.
