Great breakdown and format for someone somewhat familiar with the history of Palestine and Zionism, and provides well written histories of where common Zionist talking points originated and strong refutations of them.

I see this recommended as an introduction to the topic but there's likely better intros out there. It isn't a bad intro per se, but it's very front loaded with detailed histories that someone new to the topic or reading about history in general could struggle to digest effectively.

Although there are some items of discussion I could probably pick nits about, I thought that this was a well-researched and informative book. Decent gateway to a conflict that is so nestled in history. My biggest issue was that I felt the "why" didn't go deep enough, there wasn't as much external context discussed which is odd because modern day Israel can pretty much be considered an American proxy state.

Thank you Ilan Pappé for your insight always. What an incredible historian and scholar, he puts every idea forth very succinctly and links every issue. I appreciated the insight coming from a man raised in “Israel” especially being known as one of its biggest critics. I highly recommend this to everyone as many of the things he observed to be happening ever since before the Balfour Declaration are still happening to this day with the seemingly active support and encouragement of the US and many related nations.
