This time around the action takes place outside of the confines of King's territory of New Orleans.

We're off to a small farming community which has managed to cobble itself together well in this new world where shifters are a thing!  A family full of vibrant, capable and intelligent sisters are at the heart of the community.  They are the doctors, vets, security and organisers.  But they are first and foremost friends, neighbours and kind to strangers.

Violet was a paediatrician before the Fall and now she's putting more general doctoring skills to the test.  Supplies are low and life-saving equipment is pretty much non existent.  But with the help of Orion, the super helpful and talented tracker, she's keeping her community afloat.  She's most definitely in the friend zone with the huge male though.  But that may have more to do with the secrets he's keeping than anything else!

Orion has kept is dragon-shifter status under wraps since joining Violet's community.  After all its not likely they'd take his dragon form well...not after his kind decimated their world.  But he's not the only shifter keeping them safe.  He has assistance from some wolfy brothers!  But it would appear that even their night time patrols aren't enough to keep the vampires aware!

I love a fish out of water story and that is most definitely Orion.  he woke up after a mega hibernation to find the world in flames, most of his friends dead or lost in the new world.  He catches on fast and manages to hide most of anachronistic slips but he is not quite the master of disguise he thinks.  Someone is quite aware that he's not all that he appears!

Violet and Orion are a fab match.  Neither really want to be in charge but kind of get "voluntold" into being the unofficial people in charge. The work so well together and are both fearful of taking their relationship out of the friend zone.

The community know who they need and are quite vocal about it.  Violet and her sisters are a capable bunch and just get on with keeping everything together the best they can.   The way they hand their visitors and the encroaching vampires are wonderful.  And the big reveal of Orion as a shifter is way less drama than he thought it would be as most just take it in their stride, lol.

Most of Violets sisters are also loved up by the end of the book but I'm hoping it's not the last that we've seen of them.  Mari needs to have her HEA too!
