This is a book filled with illustrations and photos of urban structures and planning as expounded over the last century or two. It's a product of the New Urbanism movement that emphasizes walkable, green, sustainable cities over our (American), car oriented system. It's organized loosely on the principles in the NU charter. A useful reference books for urban planners and citizen activists who want a better future for our urban places.

Having been in European and Asian cities that are compact and walkable has been mostly an enjoyable experience for me. I wish our American cities could be as nice and not a shrine to the ruthless auto.
