A party like no other is what Allegra has planned. She and her friends are sneaking away from their boarding school for the weekend in order to spend their time partying in Allegra’s family castle. Full of excitement for their forthcoming party…but it soon turns into an experience they’ll wish they’d not had.
Sneaking out of school is the easy part. There’s some talk of a group of locals who don’t like the plans Allegra’s father has for redeveloping the castle, but this is something of a diversion.
The group arrive at the castle in high spirits. Unfortunately, on their way there the weather turns and a storm sweeps in. This leaves the group of seven alone in the castle, with rising water blocking off their access to the mainland and heavy winds threatening any attempt they make to leave. You’d think they’d be safe to bunker down and wait the storm out.
That’s the plan. And all is going well until they wake to find one of their party dead. Jai had been injured by falling logs, and it’s feasible that caused her death. Increasingly nervy of the risk posed by the locals the group talk themselves into a heightened sense of anxiety, which seems appropriate as more of their party get picked off in increasingly violent ways.
A slow start, and then things progress at break-neck speed as the numbers are whittled down. It’s hard to get behind our key narrator, and the repetitive nature of the hunt became less effective. However, this was an entertaining read and I’m grateful to NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and review it before publication.

What a twisted book...
THE PARTY is a gripping thriller that follows Bessie and her friends. A party in a castle with her closest friends. What could possibly go wrong---besides a terrible storm and m*rder? When you of her friends ends up dead, Bessie and the others race against the clock to stop the k*ller before another ends up dead?
Natasha Preston is one of those instant-buy/read authors, and I had extremely high expectations for this book. THE PARTY did have a slow start as the characters were introduced and the preparations were. However, once Bessie and her friends arrived at the castle, and things started going wrong, I was hooked. I had to know the whodunit and their reason. There were so many questions coursing through my brain.
Constantly, I found myself guessing the k*ller. Constantly, I thought I was wrong. As the mystery was picked apart, the k*llings picked up, and the k*ller was close to be revealed, I finally landed on whodunit, but that revelation and big twist made me realize I waa on the wrong track.

ARC Review of The Party by Natasha Preston
Natasha Preston is one author I will auto buy any time she releases a new book.
This book was fantastic, right when you think you know who it was it changes to someone else.
A group of teens plan to sneak out of boarding school to get away for a long weekend to party in a castle.
Little do they know they will start getting murdered one by one.
What's the motive?
Who will survive?
Read to find out!
This book is set to release on December 3, 2024.

While I usually love a Natasha Preston book, I was a little disappointed with this release after the last few books were starting to get exciting and had a different sort of ending. The Party didn't have the same vibe of The Dare or The Haunting and seemed to fall a little flat.
It started off with an interesting premise which was pretty similar to The Island, except in a castle setting, but as the story went along and with the obvious hints, it started being clear who was responsible for the murders despite the clues to throw you off. There was nothing shocking or unexpected about it, and a thing that nagged at me was that some of the murders felt like it wasn't a wound they could die from. The worse part of it was, the entire motive of the killers and the final survival ending scene felt rushed and pointless. It didn't even feel like any of her classic cliffhangers.
Thanks to NetGalley, Random House Children's for the ARC.
