I read this book directly after reading Robinson Crusoe and have to say, it blows that one out of the water. I'd never read it before, having only seen Treasure Planet and Treasure Island as films; it's been on my list to read, however, and I'm glad that I did.
The format, the narration, descriptions and characters, plot and progression were all fantastic. There's no wasted space here, and the boy narrator is a fairly competent fellow in his own right. The release of the story as a serial makes sense in that each chapter provides its own rise and fall of narrative, gripping the reader and pushing them to the next one.
I read the whole book in two days, which to me is one of the signs of a good book. It is a straightforward adventure, no frills or excuses, and does a great job of it. I'd consider it and the emotions it elicits to be worthy of emulation, and will take the time to study it for inspiration and reference in my own writings.
Recommend to everyone interested in a good, straightforward adventure story.

It was a bit of a trudge through this at times. I expected more treasure hunting and more excitement. I like Stevensons work though and the idea of this is decent, just in reality it was a bit dull, particularly in the middle.

No matter how many times I read this, it just never gets old. It's still as brilliant as it was the first time.
Thsi adventure story appeals to both boys and girls because of the relationships between the characters the the adventurous journey the author is able to write.

I’ve read this before, but that was many years ago and I hardly remembered it. I had a great time reading it again, it was fun and interesting :)
Ένα από τα καλύτερα μυθιστορήματα που γράφτηκαν ποτέ και μια από τις πιο όμορφες περιπέτειες για παιδιά και για νέους, το νησί των θησαυρών είναι μέχρι στιγμής αξεπέραστο (IMHO) τουλάχιστον στην κατηγορία του, αν όχι στην παγκόσμια λογοτεχνία συνολικά.
Ο Τζιμ Χόκιν που ζει και εργάζεται στο πανδοχείο της μητέρας του, έχει ένα μπελαλή ένοικο, τον καπετάνιο, για τον οποίο υπάρχουν βάσιμες υποψίες ότι η ναυτική του καριέρα έκανε τα περισσότερα μίλια της κάτω από μαύρη σημαία. Όταν αυτός πεθαίνει, οι εξελίξεις που πυροδοτεί ο θάνατός του (ή έχουν ήδη δρομολογηθεί και τον προκαλούν) είναι ταχύτατες και κατακλυσμιαίες (τουλάχιστον για τη ζωή του μικρού Τζιμ) με αποτέλεσμα λίγο καιρό αργότερα το ογόρι να βρίσκεται μούτσος στο πλοίο Ισπανιόλα καθ' οδόν προς ένα νησί όπου τεκμαίρεται ότι είναι θαμένος ένας μεγάλος θησαυρός.
Το ταξίδι είναι όμορφο και ο μάγειρας Τζον Σίλβερ ένας πολύ ενδιαφέρων και χαριτωμένος άνθρωπος (παρά το ένα ποδάρι που του λείπει), που έχει ένα παπαγάλο που φωνάζει "γκινέες-γκινέες!". Ωστόσο, όπως και στην πραγματική ζωή, τίποτε δεν είναι όπως φαίνεται κι αυτό το εμπεδώνει ο Τζιμ ένα βράδι που του ήρθε όρεξη να φάει ένα μήλο και κρυμμένος σε ένα βαρέλι, άθελά του γίνεται κοινωνός της γνώσης ότι η αποστολή είναι ήδη σε κίνδυνο, το ίδιο και η ζωή του όπως και η ζωή όσων είναι μαζί του και εκείνος εμπιστεύεται...
Κι είμαστε ακόμη στην αρχή...
Κάποιοι δυστυχισμένοι έβαλαν λιγότερα από 5 αστεράκια σε αυτό το αριστούργημα, αλλά υποθέτω ο κάθε (κατά Σέξπιρ) "3 inch fool" αρέσκεται να κηλιδώνει το ωραίο προς επιβεβαίωση της θλιβερής του ύπαρξης.
