The epilogue came out of nowhere for me!  Like WHAT?

I felt highs and lows in this book.
Poppy’s letter at the end felt out of place especially for teenagers but I had to take several breaks while reading this book because the emotional damage this book causes is intense.

I have decided this is the modern day β€˜A walk to remember’.

I loved how we got to see Rune and Poppy's relationship from both perspectives, especially from childhood to the end since I'm a sucker for the childhood best friends to lovers trope. The story itself and the events that unfolded had definitely made me sob, I won't lie. But God, I HATED how Rune was written to be this broody, angsty, edgelord teenager. 😭 His narrative was so cringey at times that I HAD to put the book down from all the second-hand embarrassment and cringe that I felt.

This book broke me.  I cried my eyes out towards the end reading the letters within.

I loved the unique concept of keeping a jar of one thousand kisses as it allowed a unique way to record memories of their young love.
It dealt so well with themes of grief throughout. Both familial and romantic and it honestly hurt my heart these characters didn’t get their happy ending as they were made for each other but I cannot complain with how well versed this whole book was.

I loved this so much! It was beautiful and heartbreaking.

  • Poppy is the perfect protagonist and I love how deep her relationship is with Rune.
  • The fact that this was largely inspired by One Direction songs is obviously a bonus.
  • The scenes in New York were stunning and emotional.
  • The way Rune treated his parents was just A LOT and was pretty uncalled for. Both families seemed pretty financially comfortable, not to mention Poppy’s aunt is a flight attendant. I have to imagine they would’ve let Rune and Poppy visit each other every so often.
  • Rune never kissing another person and dying only 11 years after Poppy just seems impossible and tainted this story a bit for me.

Thoughts: This book completely tore me apart (IYKYK). If you need a good cry, this is the perfect book to read. It had been on my to-be-read list for the longest time, and I'm so glad I finally picked it up. The relationship between Rune & Poppy is incredibly pure and sweet. Tillie's writing beautifully captured the essence of the story, making it a truly unforgettable read.

Synopsis: One kiss lasts a moment. But a thousand kisses can last a lifetime. One boy. One girl. A bond that is forged in an instant and cherished for a decade. A bond that neither time nor distance can break. A bond that will last forever. Or so they believe. When seventeen-year-old Rune Kristiansen returns from his native Norway to the sleepy town of Blossom Grove, Georgia, where he befriended Poppy Litchfield as a child, he has just one thing on his mind. Why did the girl who was one half of his soul, who promised to wait faithfully for his return, cut him off without a word of explanation? Rune's heart was broken two years ago when Poppy fell silent. When he discovers the truth, he finds that the greatest heartache is yet to come. A stand-alone young adult tearjerker romance, recommended for ages fourteen and up.
