4.5/5 This is very close to five stars I just think it was a liiiiiitle long in the last third of the book. And since I have a five star in this series to compare it to!

Loretta Chase writes a slick, rompy book.

I really loved Marcelline. Clevedon was a pretty fun stick in the mud. The true boon to this one are the supporting characters (the sisters, Lucy, and Clara) and the dressmaking shenanigans.

A pretty good time, and the stepback is gorgeous.

Shoutout to Kate Reading for excellent audio narration.

3.5 Not as strong as Chase's best, but better than her less successful work.

another absolute hit from loretta chase. her place on my list of favorite historical romance authors has moved up significantly by making marcelline noirot a heroine that exists. rating a book five stars means i cant even describe what was so great about it, it just was great and im so pumped to read about the rest of the sisters. im ready to fall further into the rabbit hole that is Victorian era Parisian & English fashion.
