prilično zahtjevno štivo. marguerite yourcenar izgrađuje ljubavne priče i priče o ljubavi kroz klasične (antičke) likove pa je knjiga podijeljena u devet priča u čijem je središtu protagonist koji proživljava svoju ljubav - tu ćeš naći npr. ahileja, sapfu, patrokla i antigonu. bez barem okvirnog poznavanja njihovih mitskih života i života likova s kojima ulaze u interakcije, ovo je jedva razumljivo. s obzirom da je moje poznavanje mitologije pod finim slojem prašine, nisam mogla u potpunosti savladati te tekstove pa sam ju ubrala samo površinski... marguerite yourcenar piše divno, njena proza na granici je s poezijom, bogata je i kompleksna, posjeduje onu zastarjelu finoću starih tekstova. da bih se vratila ovoj knjizi i mogla ju u potpunosti primiti, bilo bi potrebno prije toga ponoviti praktički cijelu antičku mitologiju...

One of the best books I have ever read. Pure genius. Marguerite Yourcenar's writing is splendrous. It fills my heart with joy, astonishment and admiration.

extractos de un diario de amor, de una pasión que consume. Yourcenar dice que el amor correspondido duele, roba el sueño y la dignidad y al mismo tiempo, ese dolor nos hace sentir vivos. Sus frases sueltas recrean la atmósfera del amor que espera, que nunca termina. Después vienen los relatos basados en los grandes mitos griegos: una narrativa limpia, que modifica a los héroes, humanizándolos. Los mejores relatos de "Fuegos" son la historia de María Magdalena y de Safo. Amor y una soledad que abruma al lector, pero que, al mismo tiempo, se convierte en poesía en las palabras de Yourcenar.
