it was a very promising concept but the ending ruined it for me. I kinda, slightly like everything else with her coma friend and stuff, but i HATE HATE HATE how she just forgave her sister. SHE DESERVES TO GO TO JAILLLLLL!!!!! I would have put her to the white room with the white clothes and constrictions and everything. she needs a death sentence. Anyways. the book was alright, hate the sisters, the murderer and the normal one. But it was alright. quick read so i'll give it that, cause i know i ate that book up. SUCCHHH a page turner.

Possibly one of the worst books I’ve read in 2019. Awful characters. Poor ending. Everyone needed to be executed

An unsatisfying ending but I understand why, Korede is a character numbed by her traumatic experiences. She was never going to make the right choice or a single selfish choice. She doesn't understand herself beyond her serial killer of a sister. I'm bitter about her end but I knew it would be this way based on her big weakness--she has no sense of self. She won't let herself be free. It feels true somehow. Somehow scarier than her sister being a murderer who takes pleasure in her kills and uses her femininity (and indirectly the Me Too Movement) to get away with it.

This is, in gothic terms, the Feminine Terror.

I really wanted to like this more than I did. I had heard so many great things about the book, I feel like it spent so much time building up to just take a sharp drop to the end.

Quick read about two sisters, one responsible and practical, the other impulsive and carefree. This is an extreme example but many readers will find themselves in one of the characters. There are a few cultural-specific words that can be looked up to get a better mental image of various scenes throughout the book.

Listened to this audiobook for my book club. Oduye is a fantastic narrator. Perhaps my favorite from the audiobooks I've listened to. This was incredibly fast-paced and very enjoyable. Korede is a protagonist that you give your entire heart to. I thought the title was a little cliche, so I wasn't going in with extremely high expectations, but I enjoyed it immensely. The short chapters made for a very good listening experience. I definitely recommend for anyone who wants something short but still very impactful.
