Slow start, but entertaining finish.  Nice nix of romance and magical mystery.

I gotta stop picking up historical fiction when I know perfectly well I don't really care for it.

The writing style was difficult for me to get into and I spent the first 50 pages trying to convince myself not to DNF this book. But around page 50, I really started to enjoy it. The book isn’t profound. The characters aren’t the best I’ve ever read, the plot twist is kinda expected, it was fun and enjoyable. If you like magic and queer fiction and mysteries, you will like this.

DNfed around 10% or something like 3 months ago. I just remembered not being able to get through it because it was just so boring for me. I should've known since it's centered around magic, which isn't something i enjoy exactly. Like I'm cool with it in some book, but not ones where the magic is so...bleak? I don't even know how to explain. Anyways i feel bad for DNFing this since i was excited to read it before but oh well.
