This is a powerful examination of the history of racism, its present manifestations, power and privilege, and one girl's grief. The book ended up being something completely different than I thought going into it, and I really loved it for that. There are some twists and turns that I can’t go into because it will give away too much of the plot, but things are not as they seem. The narrative is complex and authentic. Truly unlike anything I’ve read!
