super informative and clearly laid out view of the epidemic of sexual assault and how the justice system is broken. i liked how Krakauer presents facts such that the conclusions are so plain and obvious, he doesn't even need to spell it out for you how messed up it is - which i think is important for a sexual assault book, to be irrefutable. and i'm glad that he went deep enough in his research to weave in what the trauma that victims have to deal with after the fact is like.

my one wish is that there was more attention given to the survivor's individual stories rather than the more journalistic type of details like court transcripts. but i get that that was not necessarily the primarily goal of this book. for a deeper understanding of the survivor experience, memoirs written by survivors (i.e Chanel Miller's Know My Name) are better suited.

It is hard to believe that this was allowed to happen in a town in America.
I had to read this is small doses. Not for the faint of heart. This book will stay with me for a long time. Very well written.

This is emotionally hard to read. Also horrifying. What an example of rape culture, and also so illustrative of the face that alcohol plays an enormous role in rape and sex among young people. Back when I worked in training for sexual assault, I remember the main trainer saying that the primary "date rape drug" that everyone always overlooked was alcohol.
