The main character was extremely unlikeable, too many unnecessary paragraphs and dull.

A woman whose family has long been estranged from her father decides to seek him out when a reporter declares that he's hell-bent on find ing the man, who disappeared from public view many years earlier. Together, the woman and the reporter do some digging, begin a relationship together, and find her dad, whose story is one of mental illness, the stigma of such, and the fear of lack of control, reprisals from the woman's mother and her family, and society at large. It's a slow read and a bit pat, and the characters are all pretty awful people--privileged and snobby and not very thoughtful. Not entirely terrible, but not something I'd recommend to most people.

Oh dear. I do like (expect?) a bit more of novels. This reads like someone's final submission for their MA in Creative Writing. In fact, in a previous life, I marked work from my Creative Writing MA students that surpassed this. The main character, Rebecca, is almost detestably flat. The fairytales are lifeless. The father gives a spark in the final few encounters.

The idea is good, but the execution could have been better.
At some points, the characters feel a bit too simple, and the whole story would have benefitted from having a bit more depth. Especially the main character.

I'm afraid I found this terribly boring. Couldn't get invested in the characters; the main character, Rebecca was particularly annoying and vapid. The plot held promise but I found it tedious and lack stimulation.

I really loved this book, not the type of thing I would normally ready but the plot had an interesting story and the fairytales were very clever! Would absolutely recommend this.
