Second read: I forgot how much that last scene made me laugh! Loved this one - again - and now I’m ready for the next book. Sadly, I have to wait until June :(

Super enjoyed this one! The focus is back on the main characters with lots of time spent with Mercy and Adam, along with some of the other core Pack members. I miss Stefan but at least we had a little bit of Wulfe, and damn that crazy bastard makes me smile. I’m still putting my wish for Wulfe’s story out in the cosmos. One day maybe.
It’s nice to see that, despite one or two not-so-great books, this long running series can still have me turning the pages long after my bedtime.

Still reliable adventure + banter escapism, but not my favorite of the series. The Adam/Mercy relationship stuff is sometimes annoying (I don’t mean the fact that their relationship is part of the book, but how frustratingly bad the characters can be at dealing with their issues). And this monster… the plot felt noir-ish in its twists and turns, but not in a good way.

Another installment in which I slid comfortably back into Mercy's life. I hated that there was trouble between her and Adam - god we all hate Christy!- and the new trouble was kind of weird.
Not much Stefan, not much Bran, a little of Ben, some Wulfe and poor Adam.
Thankfully, she saved the day again but NO ONE was helpful. No fae, no Zee, Tad was off babysitting and new wolves moved in to the territory. She is just so gosh darn clever, our Mercy is. And why don't I remember this "other" world that she can go to (and apparently Adam has one as well)?
It was different, so not a 5, and I miss all the snarky banter they used to have- please bring that back!
Thank you Patricia, we love this world you have created.

I really do adore this series. Even when it is just a visit with these characters I love, I enjoy it. But there is always a story I like, and revisiting Underhill and whatever she's planning with the fae, was especially fun.

Also, I'd like to give a shout-out to the realistic beauty of Mercy and Adam's relationship. Things aren't always perfect. They love each other, but shit gets hard, and they have to fight to stay together. I appreciate it so much. I appreciate Mercy's scars, and her fear of being vulnerable, even to Adam. I appreciate Adam's scars, and his need to show no weakness, even to Mercy. And I appreciate, more than I can say, watching these two remarkable characters fumble to reach for each other when they're at their worst.
Here's how I know that a series will forever live on my favorites list: when I finish the new book, I'm not ready to leave that world, and so I immediately begin a re-read of the series. And guess what I'm reading now? Moon Called. And this has been my pattern with all the Mercy Thompson books. To say that when a series is 12 books in... that's dang impressive.
