Long Story Short: Charlotte Perkins is lonely and sad when she enters a contest to win a Mediterranean cruise. Her hope to reunite her three estranged children becomes reality when she is named the winner and the family is forced to face their demons.

Heavy themes tackled by unlikeable characters on a gaudy ship in the beautiful Mediterranean. Glad I saved this one to read on the beach - a vacation state of mind allowed me to finish this quickly without thinking about it too much, and sometimes that’s the best way to read. Four points of view told in short chapters meant some of the characters’ motivations weren’t fleshed out (especially Regan, in my opinion) and I wish the ending wasn’t so abrupt. I’m left with questions but The Jetsetters certainly wasn’t a bad way to spend a few hours on the beach.

Super disappointed just because Reese’s Book Club books are normally really good.

Mother is super hypocritical, annoying, irritating, and degrading. The family is hot trash and it’s all because of her life choices. She needs therapy, not a priest.  Besides that, the buildup to the “mystery” each  family member deals with in the book barely scratch the surface of explaining what they were.  I felt like I kept missing information as I progressed, which made me go back and see if I did miss something, only to find out that I didn’t. Even the suicide attempt was glossed over as a no big deal.

The overall storyline was interesting, so that’s why it got a 2 star instead of a 1 star, cause the rest felt like it was half-assed.

The experience of listening to this audiobook suffered for the fact that I didn’t have a good understanding of what I was in for. Based on the title, I expected something v different, and I kept waiting for the subject matter to lighten up a bit. It did not. Pretty difficult throughout, and I just didn’t enjoy that. Maybe would have been better if I’d been in the mood… The voice acting was marvelous though!

Man, did I love this book! This family is dysfunctional as hell. But through her deft prose, the author coaxes you to care for them all even as they hurt each other in their blindness of the others’ needs. You will find yourself thinking a lot about your own family’s (dysfunctional or otherwise) patterns and history as you read.
