This was my second reading of this book. I had also watched the show silo before I read it the 2nd time. I liked it a lot more this time. The story is about a silo where there is a sheriff and a mayor. The first sheriff decides he wants to clean at the start. His wife had gone out to clean and he missed her. Also he was sure she had discovered that the silo was lying to everyone. Cleaning is when you are sent out of the silo into a nuclear wasteland and clean off the cameras so people in the silo can see better. The cleaning as are used as punishment and control. After the sheriff goes out his deputy takes over. He tries with the help of the mayor to find out why he wanted to clean. They also want the new sheriff to be Juliette a maintenance worker. They travel down the silo together and get her to take the job. On their way back up the mayor dis. The deputy realizes it is because she was drinking from his water bottle. He really tries to figure out what is being hidden and the silo. Soon after juliette take over the deputy hangs himself bit she isn't convinced it was suicide. She think the it department is hiding something. She starts investigating and sees some lies. She also meets Lukas a guy who works in IT but is really sweet. Then Juliette is sent to clean. Her old friends in the down below help by getting her good items for her suit to clean. This helps her survive outside. She doesn't clean and walks to another silo that she had no idea existed. There she is only one of the few people alive. Including an old man named solo and some teens. Back in her old silo a revolution has taken place. The maintenance workers are trying to kill the it workers. Lukas has been made a shadow to Bernard the new mayor. Bernard soo. Realizes that Lukas doesn't see the lying to everyone as good. He then gets the new sheriff to send Lukas to a cleaning. Juliette learns of this and goes back to the old silo. She gets there as a person is locked out of the silo. She tries to save him but cant. When she gets into the silo she realizes it wasn't Lukas it was bernard. After she heals she is elected mayor and the story ends.

Did not care for this. It read like a long chapter, rather than a short story, in my opinion. While it was stand-alone, you wanted to read more, but it wasn't nearly as entertaining for me to want to read more...if that makes sense. I probably won't pick up the rest of the books in the series. There just left too many questions that I wish were answered initially..not in subsequent books.

In the beginning I was really interested in the concept of the story and the world. I thought that it moved quite slow at the beginning, but throughout the book the pace was picked up a bit. But I just got very bored of everything in the middle. I cant believe I read almost 600 pages of this, I felt like not a crazy lot happened honestly. The ending was also so extremely rushed and just felt off.
