Emotionally unavailable mother but there is a reason for it. Basically it might be not a good idea to read if you are very sensitive to tiger mom but like I said, there is a mostly rational explanation for mother's behavior and the comic does not try to downplay the effects it has on the children now as grown ups.

This is one of the best graphic novels I’ve read. The art style is breathtaking and sets the perfect tone and the writing and character development is better than most novels I’ve read. Can’t wait for the next one!

This graphic novel was gorgeously, creepily illustrated and excellently, hilariously written. I loved all the witty remarks from the characters and especially the sibling banter between the two twins. The art style was very unique and stylized, and everything from the color palette to the line quality gave the story a sharpness and eerie feeling lurking beneath the recognizable and mundane city backdrop
I also loved the way that the notoriously demanding and cold Asian parenting style of the mother was paralleled with the issue of a non-human demon eater not knowing how to raise kids as humans and not rub off her "badness" onto them.
I can't wait for the rest of this trilogy to come out!

Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for this advance reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.

I wish this was a more finalised review copy, it had low image quality and a massive watermark on most pages which has made it difficult for me to appreciate the artwork.

That being said, this was a really enjoyable read. The horror aspect is intriguing, while the humour and family dynamics really shone through. It touched on a lot of issues faced by first-gen immigrants, such as the struggle to balance parental expectations with your own desires, as well as the sadness at not speaking your 'native' language.

The reveals towards the end were good and the last couple of chapters were actually really touching as we see things from Ipo (the mother)'s perspective. From what I could tell, the artwork is really good, and I can see a lot of potential in this series.

Highly recommend for horror graphic novel fans
