A quick read that has me excited to explore more of the author’s work. Bonus points for having “Flawless” play in my mind as I read over the pieces included in that song!

I'm so happy that Adamaris recommended this book to me. We Should all be Feminists is an essay based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's popular speech about what the label feminist really means and why we should all be feminists. I am familiar with Adichie's work from her book Americanah and from hearing her speech sampled on Beyonce's album. I enjoyed how clearly she laid out her points. I would recommend this work to any of my students, or to someone who needs to understand how important the label feminist is.

Flawless.

This book is ground breaking and absolutely moving/revolutionary. I am so glad to have read it!

I thought I knew about feminism until I read this book and why it's important to call it feminism instead of basic human rights. I learned a great deal from this.

Feminism is, of course, part of human rights in general—but to choose to use the vague expression human rights is to deny the specific and particular problem of gender. It would be a way of pretending that it was not women who have, for centuries, been excluded. It would be a way of denying that the problem of gender targets women.
