Wonderful writing. Sweet. Smart.  Perceptive.  Not just a book for book lovers.  A book for writers and audiobook lovers!

I enjoyed the audio of this one. The premise is fresh, centering around short stories that intertwine as the story evolves. We start with the writer of a debut novel and then meet nine different readers, each with their own reason for picking up the book. This really does emphasize the different experiences every reader has when reading a book, as seen in any book club conversation, the bookstagram community, and reader reviews. It explores the idea of subjectivity: the individuality of each reader's thoughts and opinions of the same book which I find very fascinating. Why did someone pick up that book at that time? Why did they like it when I hated it? These are all valid questions and I think Bauermeister did a great job of highlighting. I'd recommend the audio because it's got a full cast narration but I'm sure the print is great too.

Skillfully written interconnected short stories that display the serendipitous impact of a single book on the lives of 10 people, beginning and ending in an unexpected way with the author. The mood is bittersweet, with loss threading throughout, but the melancholy is tempered by hope and connection. A quintessential book club book.
