This would have to be the quickest audio book I’ve ever listened to. I was invested and needed to know what was going to happen. I just couldn’t put it down!
All the twists and turns. I knew something was right but couldn’t put my finger on it.
Loved this one!
Recommended if you like:
-Neurodivergent representation
-murder mystery
-dark past

Best book I've read this year. I haven't hated a character as much as I disliked Rose in a long time or maybe ever.

This one is tricky for me.
Was it enjoyable? Sure; it’s pleasant, the characters are all likable, the quirkiness works, the dark parts work, and it’s overall an easy read.
Was it thrilling? No. To be honest, I didn’t really feel any sense of mystery nor did I really have any questions to be answered until three quarters of the way through, which is a bit far for me. If you’re looking for those things, you won’t find them here. It’s worth a read; I was happily surprised by the ending, and I suspect that is due to me being lulled into a false sense of security created by the dull qualities of the second and third act.
Regardless, Fern is undeniably endearing, and Rose is consistently interesting in her contrasting experience. The story of her trauma mingles satisfactorily with her increasingly sinister behavior. For anyone with a sister, parts of the relationship are familiar. I am glad I didn’t quit due to the boredom I felt halfway through.
