I need to cook dinner but I am forcing myself to write this review now because I SIMPLY CANNOT GET THIS BOOK OUT OF MY MIND. WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN?

I could sit here and write a whole essay on my bread boy Peeta Mellark and why he is the epitome of a book boyfriend but there are probably already tons of other reviews that cover that; I don’t want to detract from the main point of the book as well since most people do dumb it down to the love triangle, and lastly, because I prefer to continue spewing out all of my love and gushing over Peeta to Azra on WhatsApp through voice notes. THAT SAID, WE CAN MOVE ON TO THE COUNTLESS OTHER THINGS THAT’S GENUINELY MAKING ME CONSIDER THIS WORK MY FAVORITE FICTIONAL NOVEL OF ALL TIME (YES, EVEN TOPPING PJO/HOO I FEAR..)

1. Katniss is the epitome of YA: Guys.. she is the blueprint I fear.. No but seriously I am so astonished by Katniss and Collins’ boldness in writing such a flawed female protagonist. My general impression of female YA protagonists would be your typical Mary Sue who suddenly knows what to do correctly, is liked by everyone, and never acts, for lack of a better word, ugly, or messy. But Collins was not afraid to make Katniss nearly the opposite of everything I mentioned. Sure, there are some parts where she (Katniss) says things that would resonate with a cookie cutter Y/N character (e.g. her mentioning how she doesn’t know how to talk about makeup, etc.) but it’s not really bothersome since the readers know who she is and well, given her background and the fact that she genuinely has a personality, it’s kind of irrelevant, so it’s easier to brush off. Moreover, Collins is not afraid to show the uglier sides to Katniss: her breakdowns, her distrust, her mental dilemmas. It’s so brilliant because it makes her feel like an actual person, not some ‘chosen one’ heroine who suddenly makes all the right decisions. That said, another thing I admire is how we, as readers, don’t always agree with Katniss, well at least I didn’t. There were many instances where her actions and choices frustrated me, even her internal monologue pissed me off sometimes, but it’s this type of authorial choice that truly makes a novel a gem and worth your attention. Lastly, I just wanted to say how Katniss is such an accurate depiction of a teenage girl navigating life LOLL, she perfectly captured the essence of teen girlhood (overthinking, fears, boy problems, distrust, etc.) despite it being in a darker context.

2. The pacing: PACINGNYA CAKEP BGT WOW. I loved it, I was hooked the entire time. I loved how the more emotional and character driven (I guess?) scenes were given a lot of attention and never felt slow or dragged on at all, and the careful transition to fully packed action scenes was just MWAH.

3. The subtext: ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. I honestly am going to bingewatch or bingeread HG analyses after finishing the series because the amount of profound messages, symbolism, is crazy, and genuinely so many parallels to today’s world I can’t (

Si a todo. El mejor libro de la trilogía al igual que es la mejor película de la saga. Enamorada <3 pero desconsolada por el final.

Someway somehow to books just keep getting better and better. Suzanne Collin’s had bills to pay, her landlord was at her door ready to evict her and she dropped this banger! There was so much being brought up each chapter i was just in shock everytime! The bar just kept rising and rising! The attention to detail in these books are so good. From the description of food, setting and clothing I was captivated. The endinggggg! Now I gotta read the next one!
