Death at Chateau Bremont is a well written and thought out mystery. The addition of the French expressions served to create the feeling, image, and a desire to visit Aix-en-Provence. Longworth’s first novel sets the stage for a great writer and left me wanting more of Verlaque and Bonnet.

Oh dear—this was a really tough slog. First, the plot meanders all over the place. I really had trouble keeping track of people and events. Second, the narrator seems amateurish. Just did not convince me. Not recommended. Won’t continue with this series. The

I love a mystery and I love a book set in France.... this one wasn't amazing, but was definitely intriguing enough that I will be checking out the rest of the series!

3.5 stars, I loved the atmosphere of this book, I really felt like I was in the French countryside and the characters were nicely fleshed out. It was a lovely book to escape into.....however, the mystery wrapped up extremely abruptly and way too neatly that it did not mesh with the previous meandering storytelling quite a jarring difference between the two. This was the author’s depute novel so I have high hopes with continuing on with the series.

Overall I liked this book. I felt the storyline was strong and the writing style flowed really well.
However there were a few things I didn't like and found them distracting. First was the misspellings and/or typos. Probably just over a handful but still annoying.
There are parts where Marine's memories of the brothers is muffled. I understand what the author is trying to do here but I don't feel that this pulled off very successfully.
Lastly, there is a conversation between the two main characters that keeps getting postponed and never gets finished. Maybe this storyline is meant to continue into follow up books but this felt a bit unfinished.
Neither of these were main components to the book so someone else could probably read this and not even notice them. Based on just the writing style and plot this would likely be a 3.5 to 4 star for me but unfortunately it didn't work for me.

the characters were developed , the plot was fine, there were cigars and cuisine. I may try another, but think it was just not my cup of tea, no disparagement of the author

“No cheese, lads, so it’s low fat” said no French man. Ever. In the entire history of France.

This was such a slog. I had to renew it twice to give myself time to finish it. The mystery was moderately interesting once it actually got started, but there was so much filler. The characters were really shallow and unlikeable, and I certainly didn't want them to be a couple in any way.
