I was really hoping for more from this book, but I was mainly just disappointed and confused. The art, I think, was the best part of this graphic novel. It was gory, haunting, and beautifully done. However, the story-line was just messy and not very interesting. I was wholly confused for the majority of the novel. I think that I was missing some sort of context that would have helped my reading experience, but after sledging through the novel, I don't particularly care to search around for the details.

When I first heard about this comic, I was extremely excited for the collected book to come out. I waited (not so) patiently and now that I’ve completed the story I feel like it was hyped up too much. Don’t get me wrong, the art is absolutely phenomenal and the lettering is fantastic, but the story feels like there are pieces missing. Not fully developed and all over the place, in my opinion. And I so badly wanted to like this book. I’m still considering giving it 4 stars instead of 3, but the art can only take a book so far. Definitely loved many aspects, but, for me, they just didn’t all come together.

The art in this is just incredible. I love the colour palette and it really ties in with the atmosphere of the storyline. Certain characters did look quite similar/have a similar build which made it difficult to discern who is who.
I loved the distant, prophetic narration that was dotted in with the action. It had some of the most impactful lines that highlighted how humanity, at its very core, thrives on hunger and dreams. The action was intense and I really enjoyed the dystopian Canada setting. The scene was constantly changing which made it fast-paced but also rather confusing as to what was happening where, when and why. Overall, I loved the aesthetic and plot but it was baffling at times.

...Blood, blood, more blood, plus blood and blood.

The story is solid, but the real draw is the surreal artwork that draws influence from Moebius' work on The Incal and Quitely's work on New X-Men. Each page is packed with clear, detailed lines and expressive action sequences.

Lo mejor el dibujo. La historia un pelín atropellada. No me mató.

Glad I bought this as I'll be re-reading it....multiple times. Lots to digest, really loved the storytelling, the characters, the overarching themes. A lot of layers of comic goodness.
