edit -- lowering to 4 stars because like i realized i give literally every memoir 5 stars and while this was really good it was not as good as some of the others. and i think 5 was a stretch in the first place.
my expectations were very high going into this book because i had heard that Emily is an incredible writer. however, i don't know if i would agree with this. I think she is a very good writer, not exceptional, but more importantly a very good storyteller. these essays were sometimes shocking, repulsive, and infuriating and overall gave me so much respect for Emily and her career. but at the same time it was a really great summer read to enjoy outside by the pool
