Never Seduce a Scot was kindly provided to me by Edelweiss for Random House Publishing Group.

Why have I waited so long to read Maya Banks? This was the perfect historical romance: steamy yet romantic. 'Never Seduce a Scot' is the start of a new series entitled 'The Montgomerys and Armstrongs' which I will most definitely be continuing!

The summary had me intrigued but I felt that the reference to Eveline being 'fey' had me expecting a paranormal historical twist, but... there wasn't any paranormal anything to be found within these pages.

Eveline though, was a fantastic character and one that managed to light up the pages despite her lack of dialogue (at first). I really love it when authors create imperfect characters since it adds something 'different' to the otherwise typical historical romance storyline. Eveline was strong despite her inability to hear and despite the hostile environment she'd been forced into.

'She twisted his insides into knots he had no hope of loosening.'

The romance was a bit insta-love but still managed to be heartwarming regardless. You can't help but love Graeme because of his continued support of Eveline despite the fact that he's being forced to marry her even with their family history. I loved their obvious chemistry and enjoyed being able to see how much he cared for her by the end pages.

This definitely won't be my last book by this author! Fantastic!

An impulse read, if there ever was one, but not regretting it.

Rating and Review

Rating: 4 Stars

“Anyone who could look at Eveline and not smile was a harder man than he. She was … She was a ray of sunshine on the dreariest of days. She filled a hole he hadn’t even thought occupied his heart. He couldn’t let her go.”

Graeme and Eveline may be one of my favorite leading pairs. Not only do I love them as a couple, but I also love them as individuals. Compassionate, competent, mature. They are mythical unicorns.

“You came to this clan willing to set aside your hatred or fear. You embraced a marriage that was forced on you and you’ve determined that you’ll make the best of a very difficult situation. You were torn from the bosom of your family and everything that was familiar and dear to you. And yet you didn’t allow that to cloud your judgment of your new clan. ’Tis more than I can say for any member of my clan and even myself. We were wrong, Eveline. We are wrong, and I want very much to have the opportunity to right this wrong against you.”

Maya Banks’s Scottish series has just become super *sigh* worthy. I absolutely adored the premise behind this book. Our heroine, Eveline, is deaf but no one realizes it and believes she is daft. Our hero, Graeme, may be from a rival clan but at first glance he sees something special in Eveline and can’t wait to be married. I loved how they were drawn to each other and how Graeme helped Eveline open up and feel safe for the first time in years. An arranged marriage provides conflict enough but when his clan cannot accept her, Eveline must try and find a place to call home when everything seems to be working against her. I loved the introduction to the Armstrong and Montgomery families and am so excited for what comes next in the series. Ms. Banks did a great job of introducing the two families so that I’m left eager to see each and every sibling find their HEA. Great read!

I'm very sorry to say that this is the cheesiest HR I've read yet. I'm sad because I had such high hopes for it after hearing so much praise. Don't get me wrong, the idea of the story is cute and the hero is super sweet. But that's about all it has going for it. The heroine acts like a child stomping her feet and frowning and punching people. I still tried my best to like her though. But when she forgave everyone instantly after they abused her and treated her like crap, I was just done. The "villain" in the story was so predictable and underwhelming that I literally rolled my eyes. Everything just happens so quickly and moves from one thing to the next so fast that there is no angst, build-up, tension, anything. Also, I got the distinct impression that the author is not an expert on the Scottish language or manner of speaking of that time period because it was very cringey. I've read quite a few Scottish HR and this was by far the worst. Some of the sayings repeatedly used made me want to rip my hair out. Sorry to those who loved it, but it just wasn't for me.

A deaf daughter of a Scottish laird struggles to conceal her disability and fit in after she is married to the laird of a rival clan. Enjoyed the premise of a woman living with hearing loss in a historical time period, and it was cute how fiercely protective the hero was over his new wife. However, the story was so sweet it crossed the line into being boring, and I skimmed a lot of repetitive internal dialog. I also don't understand how the title relates to the plot.

Super cute book. The hero was basically perfect and the heroine was really sweet.

This was my first Highlander Romance and I was really impressed with it. I'm excited to read the next book.

I had recently been burned by Maya Banks one too many times. I was so skeptical taking this book on, and I was prepared to hate it and rip it to shreds.

I am pleasantly surprised to announce that I LOVE this book!

Graeme is an alpha male that has loyalty to his family and clan and values honor. So many of Bank's main men are prideful to a fault and lack a backbone but Graeme's strength comes from his honor, loyalty, patience, and by valuing others as more than a means to an end. I loved Graeme and would not change a single thing about him!

Eveline is a sweet, kind and determined character. I love her and never found her annoying and I actually was impressed into how much care Bank's used when writing a disabled character. Her disability never 'made her stronger' and it was just that: a disability. It did not make or break the character. The only thing that I fault Eveline for is how quickly she tosses away her loyalty to her family.

I actually love how quickly she fell for Graeme and I don't question her loyalty to him, but choosing his clan over her family did not sit right with me.

I highly suggest this book!

This is honestly one of the best historical romances I have read in a LOOOOONG while. So long that I have started to drift away from them a little just to take a break but after watching a recommendation video from peacelovebooks I decided to read a sample first and immediately got pulled into it. *chef’s kiss*
