A funny book full with contradictions, I don't think it's a book for everyone.

They're trying to kill me," Yossarian told him calmly.
No one's trying to kill you," Clevinger cried.
Then why are they shooting at me?" Yossarian asked.
They're shooting at everyone," Clevinger answered. "They're trying to kill everyone."
And what difference does that make?

The lit snob in me generally does hate it when people who clearly haven’t read a novel apply its themes/salient points to real life superficially (i.e “””just like 1984!!1!!1””). However i feel like this book is one of the only ones whose enduring social contribution/concept/phrase is actually better off with the actual book being forgotten/not read lol

I really hated this book - I understand why its culturally relevant and i have to admit its confusing repeating absurdist style is a great way of showing the bureaucracy and nonsense of the corps - but this makes it an absolute slog to read and totally unenjoyable and a bad book (a catch 22 in itself i guess???!). Also the descriptions of women and the way theyre treated in this book are absolutely disgusting and made me so mad. It’s absolutely not worth the read or the 15 hours of an audiobook either

Hilarious, horrifying, frustrating, baffling, heart-breaking, bizarre, astute, and everything else. Read it around 6 years ago and I loved it even more the second time round.

"Catch 22" is one of the most hilarious works I have ever read, causing me to literally laugh out loud numerous times at the dialogue penned by Heller. At the same time, the novel goes much farther in pointing out the absurdity of war and the utter waste that results from it. It is easy to see Heller's influence on so many other literary and cinematic works that followed. Highly Recommended!
