Perhaps it was a novel idea in 1955 to write about the duality of war and make the argument that “war is bad, war kills people”. But in 2022 the notion is obvious, cliche, and well-worn. And I get it — the novel that did it first is not cliche but 1) that presumes this was the first novel to ever make this claim (which I doubt) and 2) the book should be well written to be so highly acclaimed. There are parts of it I found well written and entertaining, and some that just drone on and make no sense. Like he was trying to imitate a cracked out version of who’s on first.

All of this is to say nothing about the way women are talked about and portrayed. I mean dear god If the word whore was used even just 50% less, I may have given it 2 stars.

Very nonsensical and I kept getting lost. I understand the point but did it have to be so long?
